Family Secrets 1: Empty Plate
About Family Secrets 1: Empty Plate
There is barely any food left. A few snacks are hidden under the bed, the cereal is almost gone, and the electricity bill warns that the power could be cut off. Miko is left looking after his younger brother Jun while their mother is away.
Then things start to feel wrong.
Family Secrets 1: Empty Plate is a first-person psychological horror game by BADCAT GAMES. You explore the apartment, search for food, check different rooms, and slowly uncover what happened to the family.
How To Play Family Secrets 1: Empty Plate Online
- Check the rooms: Some food is hidden under the bed and in other spots.
- Don't waste anything: The apartment doesn't have much food left.
- Keep an eye on things: The apartment gets stranger as you play.
- Keep an eye on Jun: Taking care of him becomes more difficult as the story unfolds.
The Apartment Tells the Story
Family Secrets 1: Empty Plate does not need a monster chasing Miko through every room. The apartment itself slowly gives away what has happened.
The nearly empty food supplies are one clue. The unpaid electricity bill is another. As Miko spends more time there, supernatural visions begin appearing alongside details about the family that make the situation increasingly uncomfortable.
What first seems like a story about a mother leaving for work turns into something much darker.
The truth is connected to Miko and Jun's father, an abusive man with serious debts. Their mother was not simply away from home. She had been murdered for her money, leaving the two children on their own.
A Family Secret With No Happy Way Out
The hardest part of Family Secrets 1: Empty Plate is how little control the characters actually have over what has already happened.
Jun eventually finds chocolate in the house despite having a serious allergy. Jun eats the chocolate and soon has a severe allergic reaction. Things get worse very quickly, and there is no way to undo what happens next.
The story leaves Miko and Jun with a pretty rough ending. For something different, Backrooms Online puts players in strange places where getting out is the main problem. Fleshbreak goes for a much nastier kind of horror, while Corridor 9 focuses more on mystery and the things happening around you.
